What is Heaven Like?
Can we imagine what Heaven is like or is Heaven beyond our imagination? "I Can Only Imagine" is a beautiful song written my Bart Mallard about Heaven and what he imagines it is like to BE THERE.
Although Heaven my be beyond our wildest imaginings, it is important that we base our hope and desire to BE THERE on the glimpses and descriptions of Heaven God has given us in the Bible.
Scripture says:
"He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
Revelation 21:4
Now that is hard to imagine, after all we live in a world overrun with pain and unhappiness.
But Jesus said in John 14:1-3:
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, trust also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you may be where I am.”
What a wonderful future we have promised to us, but it is hard to see past our present circumstances. We are so preoccupied with our daily life and problems here on earth that we do not think about or imagine our eternal life in Heaven. Many are so earthly minded they are no earthly good.
In Colossians 3:1 it says:
“Set your heart on things above, where Christ is seated on the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.”
If we fix our hearts and minds on things above, the issues and problems of today will seem small. Our goal instead will be one of eternal magnitude, BE THERE with Christ in Eternity and BE THERE for Christ during our earthly life.
As believers in Christ, our citizenship is in Heaven and we can and should “imagine” what it will like to BE THERE.
